Left 4 Dead
I really need to find more time in the day. This is one of those “perfect storm” times of the year when tons of quality games come out and there’s simply not enough time to play them all. I saw a video for Left 4 Dead the other day and was convinced that [...]
Read More2006 US Elections
Strangely enough, Britney Spears announcing the end of her marriage to Keven Federline was not the most important news this Tuesday. It was an interesting night for America as millions went to the polls today. As of right now at 11:10 PST, there is still a bit of uncertainty even though the polls closed hours ago. There’s obviously much to cover tonight so we’ll just stick to the interesting races.
- By nearly 60% (25% more than his nearest opponent) Arnold Schwarzenegger is re-elected governor of “Kal-ee-forn-ne-ah”. I’m sorry but am I the only one that thinks a man who once donned a shiny silver and blue suit and actually said, in a movie, “Take two of these and call me in the morning…”, being governor of one of the largest populations in the United States…isn’t that a little strange to anyone else? Overall, however, the Democrats have a majority in governorships, with projections putting them at 31 of 36 elections for 2006.
- It is all but official but sources project that the Democrates will take control of the House in a 27-seat swing. This was obviously a show of the American people’s disapproval of the war in Iraq as well as president George W. Bush. This could be the start of a major swing in American politics. In fact, there’s already speculation that with control of the House, the democrats could attempt to impeach Bush.
- Perhaps foretelling the strong possibility that Hillary Clinton could be the first woman president, House Democratic leader and California candidate Nancy Pelosi is quite possibly the first female Speaker of the House. Apparently she is pushing for increased stem cell research, increasing the minimum wage and putting more money into health care for seniors. Probably not a bad idea to begin to repair some of the damage done by the Republicans.
- Right now the Senate race is still up in the air with projections putting both parties dead even.
America missed her chance to make a change in 2004 and while this certainly doesn’t fix some of the problems both in the US or in the world that the war in Iraq has created, change is certainly a good start. It will certainly be interesting to see how Tuesday’s results play a role in the 2008 elections.
