Left 4 Dead
I really need to find more time in the day. This is one of those “perfect storm” times of the year when tons of quality games come out and there’s simply not enough time to play them all. I saw a video for Left 4 Dead the other day and was convinced that [...]
Read MoreAll Hail To The #1 Ed Lau On Google!
After a little less than five months on the job, I’ve finally able to check off a third requirement to becoming a Dot Com Mogul! I may not make all my money on the internet or have no other jobs just yet, but hey, I am now in sole possession of the #1 spot on Google for any searches for my name! Take THAT, Ed Lau Ironworks! Strangely enough, that site has dropped off the map completely. But hey, who cares…there’s a new KING of the hill, folks!

When I started this blog, I soon discovered that my name’s .com was taken by a ironworks company in Kitchener, Ontario. They weren’t too keen on selling me the domain since their company was apparently named after the grandfather of the current owner or something like that. I’ve lost the e-mail that they sent me and I can’t be bothered to ask again.
Oh, that wasn’t the strangest part of Google searches for my name either. For a good month or two, searching for Ed Lau would result in John Chow being #2! Yep, that post I made about an interview with the Root of All Evil at Kam Do was linked over at his site and that was higher up than my own site! Oh the injustice!
I realize that there probably aren’t too many searches for my name but I haven’t really decided what kind of search I want to go after. John went for “make money online” but my blog here isn’t really about that. I’m much more diverse, I think so I can’t really think of any particular search I’d like to be tops for. Any suggestions?

Looks like Ed Lau Ironworks is still #1 on Google Canada. Maybe try to digg them to death somehow…
ReplyCongrats. I’m still just #3 for my name. But it’s allright, I’m not trying to be dot-com-mogul
ReplyThat’s only if you search “pages from Canada”.

ReplyNo joke, they seem to have taken over #1 again…even on Google.com and .ca

[...] Ed Lau has been fighting an uphill battle for quite some time, trying to oust some ironworks company from the number one search result for the term “Ed Lau.” After plenty of hard work and lots of link love from the blogosphere, the “real” chest-kicking Ed Lau has captured the top spot in Google.
