Originally, I took part in the One Day Blog Silence event for today but…after reading John’s post about how it was a linkbaiting operation, I took it down for two reasons.
1.) I don’t feel like supporting anyone who wants to profit from pain. I thought it was rather legit but hey, there are all sorts of evil bastards out there that are looking to make some dough or get famous off a tragic situation. I removed the embedded link in the picture before posting it anyhow.
2.) I couldn’t actually go a whole day without saying something. John’s totally right…a moment of silence is sufficient. Expecting the blogosphere to come to a halt for an entire day is a little too much to expect.
If you would like to do something to help those involved in the VT shooting, you can donate to a memorial fund set up by the university for the victim’s families. Stay tuned as regular blogging resumes momentarily.

ReplyI gave the benefit of the doubt and observed the day. Would be too depressing to believe that everybody is looking for immoral ways to serve their own selfish needs.

My thoughts exactly.. talking about the event is what will really pay hommage to the victims in the end…
Replyi initially had the button up in addition to my own VTU memorial donations banner. i removed the one day BS banner after reading John’s post too. it’s hard to believe that someone could do this just to gain back links and PR, but if you really think about it, why else would they do it? silence is not an answer. everyone pays respect in their own personal ways. someone linked to my post saying that i hadn’t looked at the other side of the story before taking down the button. what other side? i posted a freakin banner telling people to donate to VTU! and i didn’t post anything else that day! i don’t get it…
ReplyI don’t doubt John, but do you really think that’s all it was? Regardless, I thought it was the proper thing to do..regardless of the alleged bunk website.
