Are You Ready To RAWK!? Songs From Guitar Hero Live
June 9th, 2007 by Ed Lau |Ever since picking up Guitar Hero 2, I’ve been looking for songs from old school hair metal and rock bands. While whoever the band is in the game does a good cover job of all the classic songs, they don’t compare to the originals, especially in live performances. I always try to look for live performances when I search for music, especially rock, since I always think the stuff done in studios is too polished and lacks the personality and character of a live performance. I mean, watch freakin’ Slash shred that solo…it’s brilliant. It’s quite sad that the real Guns ‘N Roses aren’t together anymore and Axl kind of went nuts.
I never really thought Cheap Trick was seriously rockin’ before but this song, Surrender is just fantastic. The lead singer and the lead guitarist might look like weirdos but it’s hard to complain when the song is this good. Not hard to see why bands from Green Day to The Trews have covered it.
Strutter by KISS is my favorite song in the game. The song is already great but this performance of it is spectacular. Personally, I find it funny how you can dress like a nut in rock and be a god. I can’t think of any other time when it’s okay for a man to wear leather pants. This is possibly the only time when it’s okay to wear heels too.
The Trooper by Iron Maiden is one of those songs along with Highway to the Danger Zone that you should just never listen to in the car because you will grow a lead foot. Don’t believe me? Play it the next time you’re driving somewhere and prepare to be surprised how much faster you’ll get where you’re going.
And you can’t have a rock list without freakin’ Freebird. It’s too bad three members of Lynryd Skynyrd died in a plane crash but hey, when you’re a rock star, it’s probably cooler to die young than to…say…Keith Richards it. I swear to god, that man is going to outlive us all. Every year I think Keith Richards is going to die and he always manages to prove us wrong.
