ATVing in Whistler

by Ed Lau on August 29, 2007

Every so often, you have to take a break from working hard, get out of the city and escape reality a little. There aren’t many places on earth better to do so than Whistler, BC, one of the best ski resorts in the world. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the place when there isn’t any snow. So I took the week off and rented out a condo with my friends.

There’s still plenty to do here in the summer from white water rafting, zip-lining (where you’re strapped to a cord and flying around at 90 km/h), mountain biking/freeriding and hiking. Today, we decided to go ATVing around the mountain.

It was raining in the morning so they gave us each some rain gear. Unfortunately, as you can see, rain-suiting up isn’t exactly as easy as one might think…

After I managed to get those damned suspenders to stay in place, our instructor took us around the trails, which had some seriously jagged terrain. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the crazy dips and holes since…well, I had to keep my hands on the wheel at the time.

…and large puddles. At one point, I went fast enough for my ass to fly entirely off my seat.

It’s just over $100 for two hours of fun, less if you’re doubling on one vehicle. There are other, longer tours as well. The guy said there’s one where you go straight to the top, eat dinner and watch the sunset from the mountain. Seems like a heck of a lot of fun I’ll have to try next time I’m here.

looks like fun, I had a one day go-kart tournament with my friends.
Who would guess that north Europe’s biggest go-kart track was located 5 min from my place?

If you liked this, you should go MOUNTAIN BIKING with me some time before I leave! You can go just as fast, and it’s even more fun riding in the dirt, jumping over holes, etc. WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR KNEE JUST GO!

ATVing through puddles is a million times better than doing it in dusty conditions!

ATVing is a blast. I did it in the Mexican desert during my cruise in May.
