Be Careful With Wordpress Plugins

by Ed Lau on February 2, 2009

Well, in general, the majority of Wordpress plugins are relatively safe and can do no worse than create a syntax error that requires you to turn it off but for the second time in about a month or so, I found that I was locked out of my Wordpress dashboard because of security issues caused by plugins. Apparently the questionable plugin was the form that I use as a contact me page and after it was disabled, I promptly regained control.

However, it isn’t always this simple and site security should be a priority for all of us that run a website. Personally, I’m entirely useless when it comes to putting this sort of thing together. Luckily, the folks at BlueFur were able to give me a hand and Gary directed me to a page on the BlueFur blog that goes over just such a thing.

For the most part, things look like they’re back to normal and I’ve redone many of the customizations I made to the UBD CitrusTheme that I made when I adopted this format months ago. Regular…well, and by regular, I mean regular for me…programming resumes tomorrow.
