Boxing Day Craziness!

by Ed Lau on December 26, 2006

I’ve just spent eight hours among people who are all kinds of crazy. I’m talking about idiots who line up at 8 in the morning to purchase chocolate that’s two bucks cheaper than usual. No, really. Ferrero Rocher chocolates were on sale and every year at my London Drugs, people go crazy for that crap. Last year, an old lady got knocked the hell out and someone, instead of helping her up, took the chocolates out of her basket! Seriously, these are the ghettoest people in the freakin’ world to have to fight over a couple bucks on chocolate.

This is the lineup of crazies at just before 9 this morning. I don’t get it. It’s not like we had serious deals or anything. Some crappy clearance laptops and random junk that only idiots buy…although the 1GB flash drives were pretty good at $20. The craziness of the day did give me a good reason to be a little meaner than usual to customers but it still is the worst day of the year to work retail.

I did, however, manage to convince my store to match the deal at Rogers Video and I bought an Xbox 360 with Gears of War for $399. Now I’m just waiting for our stupid store to get some.

I heard that those SF-1’s (front page) weren’t even there and you couldn’t even substitute them with an in stock speaker like an RF15 or something. BB had the new Klipsch for 10 bucks less than those old disco SF-1’s. The buyers really screwed up this year.

I told myself that I wasn’t going to do any Boxing Day shopping this year, but I ended up driving the girlfriend to work early in the morning, so I figured I’d do a lap. Ended up with a video game, some sweatpants, and three t-shirts. Meh. Took less than two hours and I couldn’t be happier to get the F out of there.

I can’t believe London Drug can get a line up! What is this world coming to?

Ronin You should have seen the stuff we had to do at the LD warehouse 1 week before boxing day and the boxing day prepull. We had 198 hour days for afternoon shift. and the funny part was we were shipping out third rate garbage.
