Canon SD800IS

Posted on May 12th, 2007 by Ed Lau

So I decided on a camera awhile ago and I forgot that I asked you all for suggestions here before.

After looking at all the cameras around for about $500, I picked the Canon SD800IS. I wanted something that was about 7MP, had image stabilization and had good image quality. The SD800IS had all that and was also reasonably small. I did look at some of the newer Panasonic cameras but they were all too bulky although I did like the gigantic 3.0″ LCDs on some of them. Sonys were simply out of the question since while they’re always very nicely designed, they’re usually terrible cameras and the latest batch were no exception.

I’ve actually been using this since I went for lunch at Feenie’s with the Chows and I must say, it’s a lot easier carrying the SD800IS, which is about the size of a deck of cards, than my usual Canon 20D, which is about the size of the deck of an aircraft carrier…

What the heck is that lens? A 70-200 2.8?

I’ve owned a lot of Elphs. They’ve always been one of my favourite compact cameras. I like the Panasonic FX9 I’ve been using too though.

I’m waiting for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3… LX2 is very cool but suffers from some noise problem at highe ISO. LX3 will hopefully correct it.

Nice choice. I was thinking of getting something small too.
