Visiting Union Gospel Mission
John Chow, Stephen Fung, Greg Morgan and I were invited down to UGM today to have some lunch and hear about some of the new stuff they’ve been doing lately. We’re always glad to go down to UGM as well as help them raise some funds to help folks in need over the holidays.

That’s right. Five carefree months are once again over, seemingly almost before they started. Seriously, even though I seem to get more and more time off, it always feels like summer is getting shorter. My feelings are always mixed when it comes to school. It usually means more torturous hours and monotonous classes but it also means I get to meet new people, party and, well, UBC is always full of hot girls.
This year started off the same way it does every year, really with me skipping my first class to sleep in. Changing my “normal” sleep regiment is difficult since I’m not used to waking up when the sun is still in the East. But hey, at least it was a nice day out.

This is where I’ll be taking just about all my courses this year. Yep, one building which is a stark contrast from the miles of trekking I had to do last year going from building to building.

My first sociology prof is…for lack of a better word, perky. Almost annoyingly perky but she seems nice enough. This class will be on the sociology of work, which is perfect for me since I have plenty of work related material to use in papers. In fact, I got an A on one I wrote last year titled Confessions of the World’s Worst Employee. The prof had us tell the rest of the class about our worst job ever and I can tell she loved my London Drugs horror stories. I haven’t even gotten to our more interesting customers yet…

…although one girl had a particularly good reason for hating her job at a copying place.
Another thing I do every year in just about every class is arrive a bit late so I can get a better look at who’s in the class before I sit down. Usually I try to sit beside a girl that doesn’t look like she’s a slacker and conveniently forget to bring a pen (although I’ve had to add “My laptop is low of power.” as well in recent years) for an easy way to introduce myself. Sounds absurdly lame, I know but it’s worked for…

Reminds me! It’s time to go back for Mandarin lessons plus some random course in some subject that I’ve always wanted to learn about. Time to rip up the course calendar and do a random draw
