Gmail Goggles: Because Friends Don’t Let Friends Drink and Mail

by Ed Lau on October 7, 2008

gmail, google, goggles

I’m not sure about you but 3am after a bender is not the best time to have any sort of internet access. Although one of the best things about having an iPhone is that I have internet everywhere…it really scares me that I’ve got internet everywhere. Heck, having access to anything after 3am is usually not a great idea. Being able to e-mail whilst inebriated is probably not going to be beneficial to anyone. Don’t drink and mail, kids.

Apparently someone at Google has thought of this dilemma…probably after he fired off a bunch of “#*%&#!!# YOU!” messages to Larry Page and Sergey Brin. To make sure you’re not e-mailing your ex-girlfriends or accidentally sending those pictures of you blitzed out of your mind at that “coffee shop” in Amsterdam that one year to your mom, there is now an option in Gmail which will prompt you to answer a series of simple math problems before you can send e-mails at the wee hours of the morning.

To activate this, head to Settings –> Labs in Gmail and maybe it’ll prevent you from forwarding that grossly inappropriate joke e-mail to your entire office.

When I first saw this on Wired, I thought they were writing about an old April Fools joke that Google did. Haha… brilliant feature though. :)
