Hockey’s Back!

Posted on October 4th, 2008 by Ed Lau in Sports and Health

A year can be divided in two distinct part: hockey season and waiting-for-hockey season. Seriously, it’s torturous to see SportsCenter clogged with garbage like baseball and other “sports”. The CFL and NFL brought back some entertainment as well as the start of the English Premier League but I’m so glad hockey is back. I can already hear Bob Buskirk celebrating the first win of the season for the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Ottawa Senators, opening the NHL season in Sweden. The openers for the rest of the league will take place late next week and I’ll be going to the first Canuck game against the Flames on Thursday. Home openers are always great but this one is a bit special as we honor Luc Bourdon, who we lost to a motorcycle accident earlier this year.

Anyone else in hockey pool? Here’s my team for this year.

This is year…five, I think for my keeper league. I retained Iginla, Stastny, Gaborik, Gonchar, Lundqvist, Gomez and Niedermayer from last year and drafted the rest. Only came in third last year but I’m pretty happy with the draft this year.

Demitra, Zherdev, and Theodore look like some good pickups for you! As I said via Twitter, I’m in a pool too, but it’s not a keeper league; it’s a redraft.
