I Don’t Think The Tide Is Turning…

by Ed Lau on November 23, 2007

I’m not a Mac user myself…in fact, I have Vista installed on all my computers. Why? Because I’m a bit of a masochist…and every time Vista actually works like it’s supposed to (hahah!) it feels like some kind of accomplishment, like I’m smarter than all the folks that keep saying Vista doesn’t work.

Well, most of them have a point. Fact is, most PCs sold now simply aren’t powerful enough for Vista’s absurd requirements to run smoothly. All of mine do it fairly well but even though I built my last box in May, it’s still significantly more powerful than anything I see sold at most retail stores. If you bought a computer at a big box store, you probably wasted your money.

Anyways, I think this ad is brilliant and whoever runs the marketing department is a genius.

In fact, whoever you are, tell Steve Jobs to come out with a 12 or 13-inch Macbook Pro and I’ll switch to Mac too. The 15-inch Macbook Pro is too big and the regular Macbook is too slow. Make me a ultra-portable and you’ll have my money.

I am not a great Mac fan. I am very comfortable with my PC using Windows xp. Wild horses can not make me change over to Vista with which a lot of my friends are having problems.

Or you could clean off that PC and install Ubuntu!

I did that about 3 months ago and haven’t looked back.

I think I commented already, but it didn’t show up :(

Anyways, good commercial, but you could always wipe that PC and try Ubuntu instead of waiting for a nicely sized Mac.

I switched from XP to Ubuntu months ago and haven’t looked back.

I definitely agree that building your own PC will give you more power for the same price. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a “manufactured” desktop computer… I’ve been using Vista since it went retail, and I’ve haven’t had any problems with it (besides when it said it was not genuine, but that’s more of a error, than a problem :P ).

The thing about Macs is they’re overpriced. You could build a Windows desktop that has way more power for the same price. I’m not a fan of the Ctrl-Click for the equivalent of a right click, although using a mouse from another manufacturer would likely fix that.

Now, if only you could easily build your own laptops…
