If computer parts were people, then hard drives are most likely the angry, bitter #*%!ers who seemingly get off on making everyone else’s lives a little bit more difficult. Not for any particular reason but just because they’re sick bastards.
My hard drive decided a couple hours ago that this was, apparently, a good day to die. I’m not exactly sure what happened since nothing seemed to be wrong earlier today but now I can’t boot my computer. Thankfully, computers is one thing my house isn’t short of. This isn’t the first time this has happened and I’m damned sure it won’t be the last. Fortunately, most of my important data is backed up but I probably lost some of my latest batch of photos if I am unable to access the drive.
This does, however, appear to be a good excuse to go out and buy a new, better hard drive. You hear that, C:?! It’ll be faster and bigger than you ever were, you jackass! May you rot in whichever circle of Hell you end up in!

Doesn’t start or all or doesn’t boot into the OS? I found that a simple CHKDSK repair all seems to do the trick just dandy in the latter cases.
This might be a good opportunity to buy a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. When I bring home my pictures, I always import them to my NAS over the network and work from that. Then if my computers ever go down, anything important is always on that thing. I even run my outlook PST files from my NAS.
Similar thing just happened to my mom’s computer (*looks at Stephen*). It won’t boot up, informing me after a CHKDSK that some portion of the System folder is damaged and/or corrupted. It says that I can insert the Win XP CD to try and repair the missing file(s), but that ends up giving me the same damaged/corrupted message. Even reformatting fails.
Technology loves to let you down when you most need it, then you start thinking that technology is just a piece of crap and you never wana touch it again… except for the part where your smashing up your Computer/harddrive etc!
