I mentioned a few weeks back that my Technorati ranking went from just over the 100k mark to somewhere in the 20k’s, a surprising jump considering I didn’t hatch any kind of scheme to do so. However, I soon found that it was all part of an evil plan by John Chow that resulted in huge jumps for all those on his front page and the banning of his blog from the service.

It seems as though last night, something similar happened. Gary Lee messaged me, asking me if I knew if John had done something crazy again because his Technorati went up…a lot. I had been steadily rising from around 20,000 to somewhere just above 15,000 before hitting 6,260 last night. Going from 100k to 20k is relatively easy but cracking 10k puts you amongst some very big blogs.

I figure this is some other crazy evil scheme by John as, for some reason, Technorati lists each one of the pages of his blog as a separate site, which would explain all the blogs that link to me since I have a link on his front page. Gary would see something similar since he is currently one of the top commentators. Technorati has been wicked slow all day today, timing out several times before I could get in to get a screenshot so we can only conclude that there is something wrong with the site.

Either way, we were trying to figure out what this all means but the implications are…well, not staggering. I got to a four-star Technorati ranking on ReviewMe when I was in the 20k range and haven’t gone up any. Heck, John is still a four-star even though he’s in the top 1000 so we probably won’t see an increase in tier for ReviewMe.

UPDATE: Now I know John broke Technorati…I’m up to 2,058 now.

Whoa, that is crazy. Although I do applaud John for his evilness, these rankings for peoples’ blogs are not accurate since Technorati is messed up. It doesn’t reflect the true ranking of your blog, it’s just an inflated number.

I’m sure someone will catch on and fix the rankings someday so these blogs will be ranked according to their true popularity.

Hopefully you won’t get banned like Stephen did last time John pulled an evil stunt ;)

Stephen only got banned because he has the same webhost as John.

Actually, that’s not exactly true. I just dropped a post on it.

I got a bit of a jump too. I went from 70k at the beginning of this month, to 50k a week later, to 28k a couple days after that. I now sit at 24k.

WHAT? :)

This isn’t fair :) it took me 6 month on [GAS] 1.0 to get 600 linkbacks fairly, and you do it overnight :)

Hahaha… well, have you seen an increased in traffic from technorati since then?

K.

btw, this is a known bug… just go on any blog displays your page in a blogroll, and submit each of its pages to technorati individually. Voila.. that’s all there is to it.
