Ever get that feeling that time just moves so fast? Personally, the moment I realized it was when I recently thought of the Winter Olympics, which will be here in Vancouver for 2010. I remember years ago when it was announced that our city had won the bid, I thought to myself “Wow, I’m going to be 27 when the Olympics are here.”

But that was years ago and just recently I realized that it was 2007 and being 27 was only three years away. It didn’t seem like four years had passed since I last thought about how old I would be when we host the Olympics but hey, 30 is only three years away from that too. Either way, I realized I’m not a kid anymore and I should seriously start taking better care of myself.

I thought I should start living healthier. Less time at my desk, more time being active outside. I do play soccer and such with my friends but not nearly often enough. I played rugby in high school and hit the gym at least three times a week for weight training. I’ve felt like I’ve become weaker and weaker in the six years since so I definitely plan on training to increase core strength. My friend Leo told me to join him and Stephen for Crossfit but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. Maybe in a while when I’m in better shape.

Fewer unhealthy foods and less eating out. One thing I’m not good at is drinking enough water. I’ve improved over the last year by cutting out pop most of the time but I should lay off other drinks as well. Fewer beers when I go to the bar and less alcohol altogether. I can make some exceptions for special occasions but less in general. This isn’t to say you’ll see fewer food posts about great restaurants but rather than sitting on my ass, I’ll be out there working it off. Don’t worry…I’m quite good at cooking, really and maybe I’ll show off some recipes I’ve come across over the years. Sleeping at regular times will also be important. Getting eight hours of sleep…and not from 6am to 2pm.

You’ll notice I’ve changed the Sports category to Sports and Health. I’ve mentioned before how blogging has helped me set and reach goals and remain more focused so every so often, I’ll make a post about my new effort to live a healthier lifestyle. I’m not planning for the short term so I can drop a few pounds for a few months. I’m planning to make a serious change in the way I live for the long term.

I’m not expecting this to be easy and to be honest, it wouldn’t feel like an accomplishment if it was. There will be times when I’m feeling lazy and feel like skipping a day or deviating from my plan. I’m not saying it absolutely won’t happen but I’ve always been honest here on my blog and I’ll be sure to let you guys know about it. I might need you folks to step in and play drill sergeant for me once in a while.

I’m encouraged by the fact that I’ve been writing here for almost six months and I haven’t missed a day yet. I don’t think I’ve made such a serious commitment in my entire life and to be honest, I’m more interested in blogging now than when I started. I know I call him evil all the time but I really have to thank John for getting me into blogging. I don’t think I’ve ever done anything where my interest hasn’t diminished after this long so I’m rather confident that keeping track of my progress here will help.

So starting on the 6th, which will be exactly six months since I started blogging, I’ll be starting a regiment of sports, cooking better and sleeping at the times that normal people sleep. This is going to be fun. ;)

Ed if i were you i’d utilize the chance to do the Crossfit training. At the very least you can be like Leo and say “i did the same workout as the guys in 300″

I’d say take them up on that offer.

The purpose of CrossFit is to get you INTO shape. Contact Kelly and make an appointment. They seem to be able to turn ZERO’s into HERO’s…not that you’re a ZERO or anything :p ;)

Good luck with your goals man. I would also recommend joining in on the Crossfit training too, as a suggestion. It’s much easier to stay motivated when you are working out with others.

I totally agree… working out with others is easier, gets you motivated, and more fun.

Just remember that diet is 90% of the results, especially in the beginning.

I tell ya what, I’m in the same boat. I’ll be 23 before long and after playing a game of softball this spring I realized how out of shape I’d gotten. I’m setting a goal of losing 25 lbs over the next 4 months.

You’re gonna hate me for posting this, but you should continue to eat the foods you enjoy AND start this Crossfit thing (looks pretty interesting!)

Why cut out one of the finest things in life? (good food).
