A couple years ago, this Chinese kid showed up on BET’s 106 and Park and honestly, to the surprise of everyone, he just blew everyone away in the freestyle competition. No, seriously, he just destroyed everyone. His seventh and last round wasn’t even close after the guy screws up and starts yelling gibberish. Yep, good job there, buddy. We all know that the best way to get people to take you seriously is to start yelling random, incoherent lyrics. I’m almost sure that other than on Saturday night at the club, everyone thinks Sean Paul is a jackass.
Yeah, I know. That’s the extent of the ownage. Due to his sudden fame, Jin was signed by Ruff Ryders and still possibly one of the strongest freestyle rappers ever. If you can find it, look for an MP3 of him freestyling at a Toronto radio station. It’s almost 8 minutes long and the beat switches maybe 3 or 4 times but he never stops and probably could’ve gone on for an hour. It’s crazy.

However, freestyling is his only real strength. His albums and singles were a bit cheesy and found little success in the mainstream. He fell off the map for awhile. That being said, I did happen to find this video today and while I still think he won’t find much of an audience with it, I think it’s quite witty and worth a watch. From a fellow Chinese man raised in North America, I must say his Cantonese isn’t half bad.

Nice vid, but I think it’s only witty and funny if you understand Cantonese. I agree with that freestyle rap he did on the radio station…that was off the chain, yo!
Not to be picky, but I believe his official stage name is Jin tha MC, not that the whole a/e thing is/was the cause of his rise/fall. (enough slashes there for you?)
I wonder if he’d be interested in rhyming to the soulful sounds of Stephen Fung. It’d be like an AKON to an EMINEM LOL!
A nice complementary piece to your upcoming spoken word DVD, right Stephen?
Might have to do posters and head shots for the adoring fans pretty soon
Looks like the video was removed by the user. Too bad, I really wanted to see it.
Hahaha, ’sup Leo.
I replaced the video links. They work now.
