Like The New Theme?

Posted on July 30th, 2007 by Ed Lau

I thought it was time for a bit of a site makeover since this blog has looked much the same for the almost nine months of existance. I did some tweaking to the Mandigo theme to make it a bit more of my own and I got to tell you, editing one of these things is harder than it looks! Especially if you have no experience or know-how of…well, how to do anything! It’s was a lot of trial and error, really. This theme is a heck of a lot more complicated than my old one. I like the way it looks but I hate how it formats things sometimes. For example, pictures are going to be about 40 pixels smaller than usual now with the max width being 480 rather than the old ~520. Here’s what the site used to look like in case you’ve forgotten…

I’d love some feedback on how this looks or any bugs you guys might find. I’m not very good with HTML, PHP or any other scary acronyms so I’m sure there’s quite a few…

I like the new header image over the old one, though the text on the left becomes difficult to read. I think that you should expand the size of the main column, however, as it feels kind of squished now. Also, personally I’m not a fan of the date “box” myself, but that’s largely a matter of personal preference. The red and blue in the header image go well with the theme.

Whoa, I didn’t realize that the header image actually rotates through several pictures. That’s pretty nifty (but it’d take away from “branding”, I think). My comment above was in reference to the moving train picture.

    Haha nice comment dude. ;)

I think this is a nice change…although I would try for a more interesting header image. So far so good.

Hmm, it seems MyAvatars doesn’t play nice with IE7…

It looks pretty good. The rotating header is kind of cool although I don’t think all of them (the ones I’ve seen anyways) look the best.

It does feel a little more squished in the content area and the sidebar seems a little “heavy” with everything crammed in there.

I’m using the MyAvatars on my site and I don’t think I am having any problems with IE7 that I have seen. Which version of MyAvatars are you using?

new fresh look is always good, I liked that train/subway header but the orange one not so much.
Don’t know but I would have left that one only as it look friggin’ sweet.
