Microsoft Surface Computer Announced

by Ed Lau on May 30, 2007

Microsoft said yesterday that they would have a big announcement for us at midnight and they delivered. Shown here is their new Surface Computer which looks totally like something out of Minority Report. Not only does it use a similar multi-touch interface to that of the Apple iPhone, but it wirelessly syncs to other wireless devices very easily. The demo of them moving pictures from a wireless digital camera to a PDA is astounding and surprisingly simple looking. Microsoft says these will be available as early as the end of 2007 but I probably wouldn’t expect them to roll out until 2008. I think I heard from the video that they cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 at the outset so I wouldn’t expect these to be anything but upper consumer and business level products for awhile. Apparently they’re supposed to be mall kiosks and digital casino machines first.

This thing is amazing. I can’t wait to see it in hotels, restaurants, airports, etc. Should be cool to try out, although it isn’t a very realistic alternative to the PC.

I’d love to have one so I can watch porn on my coffee table.

SO many of my friends are convinced this is a fake. I can’t wait for these to turn up in bars, so that as you wait for your drinks you can buy stuff on eBay.
