Name Our New Site and Win Two iPod Nanos!
August 1st, 2007 by Ed Lau |
Michael and I have been discussing the possibility of starting up a new blog on one of our favorite subjects: hockey. Growing up in Canada, it’s only natural that we live and breathe our country’s sport. I often want to talk about hockey here but there’s so much going on in the world of hockey (and all sports really) that it really needs an entirely seperate blog.
The problem is, we’re not very good at coming up with a name for our new blog. All of our ideas were either ridiculous, already registered…or both. So here’s the deal…
The Prize: We’re giving away TWO iPod Nanos. The winner selected by us will receive a brand new black 8GB Apple iPod Nano. A second blue 4GB iPod Nano will be given away in a random draw.

Here’s what you have to do:
- Think of a good name for a hockey website and send your idea to hockeyblogideas@yahoo.com. Please include your domain idea in the subject line and maybe a bit about why you think it would be a good name. Remember, no .net, .ca or…ugh, .info. You can check domain availability using using Go Daddy.
- Make a post on your blog about this contest. Link to Michael using the anchor “freelance writing” and to Ed using “personal blog“. Remember, don’t tell anyone what you suggested to us otherwise someone might register it, which will disqualify your entry.
Need an example?
Ed Lau and Michael Kwan need your help in naming their new hockey blog! You might know Michael from his freelance writing and Ed from his personal blog. If you come up with the best name, you could win an 8GB iPod Nano totally free!
It’s simple enough. Remember, it has to be an available dot com domain (check using Go Daddy) and associated with the game of hockey. Otherwise, it’s all fair game! The contest will run until 12:01am on the 1st of September. Good luck folks! We look forward to seeing some awesome names so be creative and have fun!
UPDATE!:
- Michael and I have decided that due to the number of entries we’ve received from readers who do not have blogs of their own, anyone who does not provide the linkback we required or does not have a blog will only be eligible for the domain selection prize. That is to say that they can only win if we deem their domain suggestion as the best one. The random draw for the other iPod will only include those who have blogged about our contest using the correct anchor texts (“freelance writing” for Michael and “personal blog” for Ed).
- Please include the link to your blog post in the e-mail to hockeyblogideas@yahoo.com so we can verify and confirm your entry as soon as possible.
- The random draw winner of the 4GB blue iPod Nano will be allowed to pick whichever color (except black) they want since I can exchange the blue for any other color. This does not apply to the winner of the best domain suggestion because 8GB iPod Nanos only come in black at retail stores.

Is there a limit on number of entries per person? Cuz I have tons of good ideas
Nope. The winner will be person whose domain we select.
The random draw will be done with everyone’s name in a hat.
That’s right. What this means is that you can suggest 10 domains and one of them is the best, then you win the 8-gigger. If yours isn’t the best, you still get ONE entry in the random draw (not 10).
On a side note, what happened to your MyAvatars plug-in Ed?
MyAvatars + new theme + IE7 = fubar.
Who the hell still uses IE?
umm . . about 75% of the Internet?
Hmmmm…. I forgot to check my blog in IE7 since I added the last couple of plugins. My home machine just has IE6, it’s here at work that I have IE7 so that I can test, but I always forget. Now you got me worrried….
LOL.. I think its 60% IE and 40% Firefox from what I have read but Gary Lee is right, majority of the internet.
‘…still get one entry’ - I don’t understand what it means? u’d randomly pick ur site’s name even if that one entry isn’t good enough?
