You’re Not Saving Money…Calm The @#*% Down
We discussed this briefly at this weekend’s Dot Com Pho after we heard the news of a Walmart employee getting trampled to death and shootings breaking out over the Black Friday sales a couple days ago. Seriously, we all agreed that this was pure idiocy…not only for the tragic events that occurred but the [...]

LCD Soundsystem is basically the epitome of awesome and therefore, one of my favorite…uh…bands of the last few years and possibly ever. No, really it’s difficult to describe what LCD Soundsystem actually is since sometimes their music is almost entirely a one-man show and sometimes, it’s performed as a group with live instruments. They’re even better live than on the album as you can see here. When live, they’re faster, harder and there’s at least twice as much yelling. I can’t wait to find an opportunity to see them live. There’s freakin’ cowbell…
Update: The original live video has been removed…so here’s a live performance from Letterman. Well, until this one gets removed from YouTube too.

Frontman James Murphy, head of the DFA (it stands for Death From Above) record label, leads LCD Soundsystem, playing all the instruments and mixing in the studio as well as providing the vocals…and what crazy vocals they are! Sometimes he sounds like he’s just…bored and others he’s screaming made up words into the mic. The first, self-titled album featured awesomeness like Daft Punk is Playing at My House and Yeah!, which is not to be confused with the Usher song of the same name. You can also find the video for Losing My Edge on YouTube, which is basically Murphy getting slapped in the face repeatedly. If you haven’t heard any of this stuff and you’re a fan of live DJ sessions or this sort of…dance…punk…definitely check out LCD Soundsystem. You can listen to most of it on their website.
Their second disc, titled Sound of Silver is slated for March 20th but it has been leaked so you can find an early review copy somewhere without a problem. Also check out the DFA Remixes of popular songs like Dare by the Gorillaz, Another Excuse by Soulwax or the DFA Demo by…er…Britney Spears (no, seriously). Anything by Murphy ranks up there with the creativity of Girl Talk - Night Ripper and Danger Mouse at least.
