If you’ve been following the development of the OLPC (otherwise known as One Laptop Per Child), well, it’s finally ready albeit at a slightly higher price than the originally forecasted $100. However, at $200, it’s still very cheap even for what it is and a great program for helping education in some of the less privileged parts of the world. It may look a bit…strange at first but remember, it’s designed for children and made rugged to withstand some real tough conditions.
From um…Monday of this week until the 26th of November, OLPC has the Give One Get One program for folks in North America. For your donation of $399, you’ll receive one of the laptops while another goes to a child in a developing nation. $200 of the $399 is tax deductible.
This is a great idea. Honestly thought, I’m not sure if I know anyone that could make use of an XO laptop. Personally, I’m wondering if there’s any way that both laptops could be donated instead. I’m going to think about what I can do with one of these or whether I can donate the second one as well before I put in an order.
This is something everyone should get on board with. Education is one of the things that will solve just about every problem from war, famine, disease, etc. in the world so even if you can’t donate the $399 now, at least spread the word to people you know.

Not a bad idea to be able to donate cheap laptops to kids but these things are going to be pretty much useless for anyone living in a first-world country.
this is such a good cause. i have to post mine as well.
