You’re Not Saving Money…Calm The @#*% Down
We discussed this briefly at this weekend’s Dot Com Pho after we heard the news of a Walmart employee getting trampled to death and shootings breaking out over the Black Friday sales a couple days ago. Seriously, we all agreed that this was pure idiocy…not only for the tragic events that occurred but the [...]

One of my favorite things to do watching TV to follow Jeopardy! and try to answer the questions along with the contestants. I usually do decently since my knowledge of entirely useless facts is quite extensive. Once, at work, I cleared the entire Double Jeopardy! board. True story…you can ask the customers who were also trying. (Seriously, we’re that bored at work.) It not only sharpens (what’s left of) my brain but…well, maybe one day I’ll get to be on the show…when it’s in Canada or something.
However, I realized something when I saw the prizes at the end. That particular day, the winner was a three day champion with just over $80 grand in prize money. $80,000…for three days worth of being the smartest person on the show. So why is it that people that go on freakin’ moron shows like Deal or No Deal or…ugh…Moment of Truth can so easily win five or even ten times that amount for games that require no skill or knowledge and take just a bit of luck? Wouldn’t it encourage people to get educated if Jeopardy! was somehow more highly rewarded than a show where you just have to pick suitcases? Heck, you can make more being on Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, which I’m convinced screens contestants to make sure they’re stupid…since the questions are so insanely easy.
Either way, we wonder why the general population is getting more and more stupid. There’s no need…we can immediately point the finger at the imbalance between Jeopardy! and Deal or No Deal. I’m sure if Jeopardy! paid a million bucks, I’m sure some people would be hitting the books rather than watching NASCAR and washing themselves with a rag on a stick.

How much of the Jeopardy budget do you think Alex Trebek commands?

Getting back on topic, my brother and I were discussing this a little while back and we completely agree that it’s not fair that Jeopardy contestants don’t get nearly as much money as the contestants on Deal or No Deal. Worst still, Jeopardy contestants probably go through a much more rigorous screening process before appearing on the show.
The fact of the matter is, however, that smart people aren’t always rewarded for being smart. When you look at celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, we are reminded once again that life isn’t fair.
ReplyYeah, but they don’t wear underwear, which makes up for the lack of intelligence because it turns all the guys around them even dumber.
