Paramore

Paramore, Hayley Williams

This is my latest obsession.

I’ve heard plenty of buzz about this band in recent months, including a recent Best New Artist nomination, but never bothered to check them out until hearing their album in a friend’s car over the weekend. I was especially impressed that a tiny, 19-year old girl could have such a massive voice. Fronted by the fiery-haired Hayley Williams, Paramore is an alternative, punk…sorta…band. Imagine Avril Lavigne without all the, y’know, suckage, song stealing and…well, did I mention her music is more annoying than a 7-year old kid repeating what you’re saying over and over? William’s voice is freakin’ huge, a powerhouse comparable to, say, Kelly Clarkson but…you don’t have to be 12 and lack a Y chromosome to listen to her music. The even better thing is…she sounds exactly the same live (or…live on YouTube) so you can be sure there’s no fancy T-Pain-esque voice digimatal computer thingamabobs messing around in the background.

Josh Farro’s riffs aren’t all that complex but they skyrocket. Paramore is an honest, young (everyone is 17-23, according to Wikipedia) band that sort of reminds me of another one of my favorite youngster garage punk bands, Be Your Own Pet, also fronted by a firestarter rocker chick in Jemina Pearl. Yes, you may have to ignore their ridiculous haircuts (except Williams’…which is awesome). Doesn’t the middle dude in the picture above look like freakin’ Kato Kaelin!?

Anyways, check out these two singles, Hallelujah and Misery Business.

Oh…and remember I said they also sound great live and acoustic? Check out the accompanying acoustic YouTube performances of Hallelujah and Misery Business as well.

But they have pretty, pretty hair. They save money by wearing their sisters’ old jeans.
