My friends bought me the box set of the BBC comedy Extras for my birthday since they knew I’m a big fan of Ricky Gervais. If you haven’t already, check out the Ricky Gervais show podcast.
So I’ve been making my way through the 12 episodes and special on the DVD set. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea since it isn’t blatant laugh-out-loud funny but it’s the sort of witty, uncomfortable hilarity that the British are just so good at. Extras is particularly good at making the stars seem completely absurd and crazy. Kate Winslet, for example, gives some really dirty phone sex tips…while dressed as a nun. My favorite so far, is Patrick Stewart, who…well, just check out the clip.
