Pictures From World Cup 2006

Seems some folks really enjoyed some of the photos I shared a couple weeks ago. It’s a lazy Saturday morning so I thought I’d post a few more.

Blogging is not the only thing I’ve struggled to find my place in. I’ve never really decided on what type of photography to seriously get into and like blogging, I’ve dabbled in just about everything, never really focusing on one particular genre. One field that is particularly interesting to me is sports photography since I think one of the most exciting careers in the world, not just in photography, is to be at the sidelines of a big sporting event. Sports photography is really usually harder than it seems and possibly the most gear dependent since the subject moves (usually) pretty fast. Pro sports arenas are usually well lit but most amateur indoor sporting events are dark and require fast lenses. Since conditions are usually less than ideal, the ratio of keepers to throwaways is usually rather low.

Last year, I went to Europe with some of my best friends for 6 weeks and during our week in Germany, we caught the World Cup between Korea and Togo. I was actually a little surprised I got in with such a gigantic camera lens. We had some fantastic seats but we were still pretty far away from the action. We sat on the Korean supporters’ side and, well, we were often mistaken for Koreans but they were all friendly and taught us all the fight songs. I’ll tell you, I love being in a crowd that’s that passionate. I don’t think anyone sat down for the entire game (which Korea won 2-1).

The action was amazing but almost as interesting were the fans there. I mean, I have no idea why that guy was in a pirate hat but heck, I wasn’t going to argue.

…and the whole place was swarming with pretty girls.
