You’re Not Saving Money…Calm The @#*% Down
We discussed this briefly at this weekend’s Dot Com Pho after we heard the news of a Walmart employee getting trampled to death and shootings breaking out over the Black Friday sales a couple days ago. Seriously, we all agreed that this was pure idiocy…not only for the tragic events that occurred but the [...]

As we speak, while it is just over 7 degrees Celsius outside, there are crazy people all over the place lining up outside electronics stores like Best Buy and Future Shop to get their hands on a very limited number of Playstation 3 consoles. Seriously, I can’t imagine why anyone would be this stupid. Seriously, it’s just a game machine.
Of course, there are those who are smart and are getting theirs in order to eBay for at least double the price. In fact, the smart people have already sold their systems because, get this, there are reports that a second batch of PS3s could be in by next week. Insiders who have had access to systems all week have already made their money, really. One PS3 was reported to have sold on eBay for $4,250. Not bad for a system that costs a little over $500US.
So if you are, in fact, one of the first people in line who stand to make at least $500-800 bucks off your purchase when you resell, good for you. Spending a day or two outdoors making eight hundred bucks is not a bad day’s work at all. However, if you are retarded and are actually going to open one of these things for yourself…or worse, BUY ONE for $4,250…I don’t really know what to say. However, if you are going to camp out…and I’ll tell you about my homeless experience in a second…here’s a few tips:
1. Bring a friend or two. Sitting outside by yourself sucks not only because it’s boring as hell but because you…can’t leave, meaning you have to pee in a bottle or something. It also means no hot food unless you brought your stove with you. Also, one person is awake at all times…for both security and line reasons. What if you’re still sleeping when the store opens? Then you’ll just me a moron that slept outside when you have a perfectly good room.
2. Bring plenty of water and keep hydrated. If you have a friend, then you can take turns going to the washroom. Sitting outside in the freezing cold is no joke so be sure to eat plenty as well. Making sure there is an open 24hr coffee shop or convienience store is nice too.
3. Warm clothing. It’s freakin’ freezing outside. If you can, keep it lightweight. Those thin, waterproof North Face jackets are great. Keep your head warm since most heat escapes from your head. Bring a couple of those heating pads if you want. The kind that you break and the chemicals heat up inside.
4. Be prepared for rain. It’s been raining like crazy in Vancouver so pack a good, sturdy umbrella.
5. Bring a chair. Or at least an ass cushion.
6. Watch out for bums. A big lineup with people that possibly have at least $700 in their pocket. Hmmm…
7. Don’t bring your expensive stuff. For the same reason as above. Leave your PSPs and laptops at home. Conceal your iPods. Bring cards, magazines, etc.
8. Bring a flashlight. There’s probably light around stores but heck, it’s probably not good enough to read by.
9. Don’t fight with other people in line. That will just get your ass booted…or something like this.
10. Bring something to do. Fact: Boredom will kill you way before hypothermia.
Being outside in 7 degree weather is not fun. Recently, I’ve spent two nights homeless but to be fair, it was in Europe while me and my buddies were backpacking. The first night was because we missed the Eurostar to Paris from London and we had to wait til 5am so we camped out at the train station. Actually, it wasn’t half bad although we got little sleep and had to walk about a click to get to a bathroom. London in the middle of the night is not fun…
The second time we were stuck in Marseille, France…waiting for our plane to London after 5 weeks in Europe. The airport was a little warmer and had more amenities but still…sleeping on a bench is not comfy. Beats sleeping in a train station cafe though…and we listened to music, looked at travel pictures and played Hearts until we were all wasted enough to take a nap. Not a bad way to spend a night…and it’s soooo Eurotrip…just like…other things…that I’ll probably talk about on this blog at some time or another. Hehehe…
I want to remember…!!
Ah, Europe…how much do I miss you…
