Random Tokyo Wackiness

by Ed Lau on September 23, 2008

It’s a well documented fact that Japan is probably one of the weirdest places on earth with its 24-hours jeans stores, flameless candles and restaurants that serve raw chicken but that doesn’t really even scratch the surface. I mean, just wait til I get around to explaining Akihabara. I’ve got much more to show you folks but here’s a few all in one post.

Assemblage – Burgers and Champagne!

assemblage, hamburger, burger, champagne, Tokyo, Japan

In the middle of the Marunouchi business district in an underground mall is this strange little restaurant that serves, yes, hamburgers and champagne. I’m not sure why someone would think of the strange combination of a humble meal and the most extravagant of drinks but it seems to work as it was rather busy. Would it work the other way around? Like caviar with a can of Coke?

Reusable Bubble Wrap

electronic bubble wrap, puri puri, edamame, Tokyo, Japan

I remember I saw this awhile ago but didn’t know it was such a popular product. I found this at Tokyu Hands, a store where you can basically buy everything. No, really…there are very few things that you can’t buy at Tokyu Hands, which has sections for luggage, kitchen appliances, camping gear and even a guy that makes jewelery by cutting the symbols out of coins (you have to see it to understand).

I guess this would be an enviromentally friendly way to enjoy the fun of bubble wrap…but can someone explain the reusable edamame?! Why would you want edamame you can’t eat?

(Dot) Com Pho?

Com Pho, Vietnamese noodles, Tokyo, Japan

Not really weird in any way but Carl and I came across a pho place called “Com Pho”, a few spots down from the burgers and champagne. It didn’t look particularly good so we didn’t bother but if the Dot Com Pho crew ever want to have a Dot Com Adventure to Tokyo, we have to check it out.

Reusable bubble wrap? Does that mean you can pop them over and over again? If so then I need to get me some of that!

And I think you have the wrong picture up for Com Pho, looks like Muji ;)

We should sue Com Pho, or at least get royalties.
