Rilo Kiley – Former Child Actors Make Great Music

by Ed Lau on October 18, 2007

Well, not really…since listening to Gary Coleman sing would probably be like stabbing yourself in the ear with knitting needles.

I’m a tad busy today, starting a term paper that I’ll let you all know about tomorrow. Believe it or not, I will actually need some of you to give me a hand with the research. More on that on Friday.

For now though, here’s another band I really like right now, Rilo Kiley and their latest album, Under the Blacklight, which I discovered during my trip to Whistler in August. It’s a great CD that really shows the band’s Los Angeles origins. It’s more of a summer disc since most of it pretty mellow but I guess it’s not bad for the grey, rainy days we get here in Vancouver, a stark contrast from that of California. That and I just can’t get enough of Jenny Lewis. I’m not sure if too many people will remember but I’m almost sure all the gamer geeks will remember watching a little movie called The Wizard.

Yeah, you’ll get it when you see it. This is the best single off the CD, Silver Lining.

Also, check out the porn-inspired track, The Moneymaker. No, seriously…porn-inspired.

I don’t think Gary Coleman counts as a child actor.

Watcha talkin’ about Ed! Better not run into him in a dark alley. He may be short, but he’s like a little wolverine sans claws.

That’s it, add a few black people in the chorus to give the appearance of soul ;)
Nice use of the triangle though. Seriously, I haven’t seen a band use a triangle in ages! We just need more cowbell!
