I agree with Rick. It’s the low scoring factor that makes Americans not like soccer. Baseball is indeed “slow and boring” but it’s the national game so you have to love it here… otherwise you’re unAmerican

I think the beauty of soccer is that it has no class boundaries. You can be poor as hell (which a lot of these Brazilian players were) and still be able to play by kicking around a rolled up pair of socks or a can.

If you’ve seen the things these guys can do with a ball and the pracises they do every day since they were kids, you would never think this was a fluke.

See that is the thing though. While the goals determine the result, the game you guys call soccer is not just about scoring. Its also very much about David Beckham’s hair!

Seriously though: There are nice passes, close shots on goal, keeper’s saves, taking on and outsmarting several oponents with a ball and much much more to watch. Hence even a 0-0 game can be quite entertaining.

Yeah, that’s a nice goal, but not the best (and not his best too). I remember when he played in Italy (eh), he used to kick as maybe even Maradona wasn’t able to kick.

Btw, speaking about boring sports.
American Football stops every 10-20 seconds, while baseball is even slower. I remember that even Homer Simpson said something about baseball being boring.

Hockey is probably better, but you don’t see a lot of skills on it. Basketball is probably the best, but still you are using your hands which makes everything easier.

I used to think that too, but compared soccer to baseball. I personally find baseball a heck of a lot “slower” and more “boring” than soccer. Soccer is also one of the few team sports where there are virtually no substitutions, whereas in games like hockey, American football, basketball… entire lines can change more or less on the fly.

Yep, Soccer is the world’s most popular sport but soccer is boring! North Americans don’t like it because there’s not enough scoring in a game. And the players take too many falls/dives to get free kicks.

Question of the day: Why the heck do all of us over in N. America refer to football as soccer. It seems that throughout the rest of the world soccer is football. Having grown up watching my younger brother play on one of the best club teams in Michigan I’ve always wondered this.
