Left 4 Dead
I really need to find more time in the day. This is one of those “perfect storm” times of the year when tons of quality games come out and there’s simply not enough time to play them all. I saw a video for Left 4 Dead the other day and was convinced that [...]

I heard of this guy, Ronald Jenkees, from Greg’s blog this afternoon and spent a good hour or so listening to his music, which reaffirms my belief that there is still just a MASSIVE amount of unsigned, undiscovered talent on YouTube, MySpace, etc. Although we’ve all heard all kinds of singers and see some amazing dancers on YouTube, I’ve yet to see too many folks who can put together a funky, creative beat.
My only criticism is that there might be a little too much melody in his beats, which is great by itself but most of the time, if this sort of thing is used in songs, it’s on a sort of…loop, if you know what I mean. Dirt Off My Shoulder, which I consider to pretty much be the best beat ever made, is the repetition of basically a ten-note phrase. It’s also a bit different from what we’re used to in house music as well. What Ronald here is doing is creative in a different way but perhaps less commercially viable as it’s more of a complete song than a beat. Either way, it is incredibly entertaining and it’s great to see anyone that loves what it does and really feels the music flowing through him.

Wow I went through and listed to some of this other stuff. Really this kid is a musical genius. He should be doing movie scoring.
ReplyI saw this on Greg’s blog too. The guy is definitely a bit of an oddball, but his “sound” is pretty fresh.
