Left 4 Dead
I really need to find more time in the day. This is one of those “perfect storm” times of the year when tons of quality games come out and there’s simply not enough time to play them all. I saw a video for Left 4 Dead the other day and was convinced that [...]
Read MoreSecond Hitman Movie Trailer Results in Disappointment

As you know, I’m a massive fan of the Hitman franchise of video games. I’ve got a mini 47 on my desk and it even inspired me, after Jeff Kee asked, to hatch an ingenious plan to get rid of a certain annoying pooch. I was ecstatic that a movie was coming out and that neither Uwe Boll or Vin Diesel were attached to it but now, I’m not so sure. I had my doubts when they released the first trailer. I could already spot elements they added in order to make it more marketable and fitting to the average public. Now…wow, they’re just veering further and further off course. Check it out here.
For one thing, 47’s purpose isn’t to rid the world of evil. He is somewhat evil. His entire motive, after discovering his origin in the first game, was to make money (and to save a couple people but mostly the money). As far as I know, he was not “raised” by anyone involved with the church since he’s a frickin’ clone. He was already a full sized adult…what the heck is there to raise?
He also has NEVER had a love interest. That’s not the way he rolls and by adding one, they’re just dumbing the movie down. In addition, he does not dual wield H&K MP5s. I’ve never even used an automatic weapon in this game other than to mess around. Heck, I went through an entire play once without firing a gun.
There’s simply too much “based on” and not enough of the elements that fans of the series enjoy. The game requires patience and intelligence…but I guess we can’t expect a movie studio to make a video game movie with the same principles in mind. Assassin movies don’t need to have gunfights every second or absurd plot points. While some of that stuff rules, the best assassin movie of all time, Leon the Professional, had almost no action until the last 20 minutes. Think subtle, people…
I’m still going to see it but…my expectations are lower than ever.

this trailer seems to have been made for a younger audience like around 15.
The trailer did a poor job of making you want to see the movie, it seems like the creator of the trailer was hibernating since 99 or something.
That or the movie will suck.
Yeah well I will go and watch it anyway as I liked the game a lot, but movies based on games seem not to be a good concept just look @ Doom.
ReplyApart from all of the above, take a second to look at a picture of 47, now take a look a t a picture of Olyphant (stupid name), now, you would think that professional hollywood move producers would be able to cast someone who looks even 0.000000001% like 47. Olyphant is literally the oppossite, he is even portrayed with an American accent when 47 clearly speaks in a British accent. Even the eye colour is different and the didn’t even try and change it with a contact lens or something. Even a latex nose or acting with a different accent would have improved the movie just that little bit. Oh yea and I thaught 47 was supposed to be a myserious, stelthy super assasin not a bouty hunter with twin uzi 9mm’s. They have done a half arsed job just for the money. A shambles and a disappointing pile of sh**.
And yes, Leon is the best hitman movie EVER, (so far).
ReplyWHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!!
Replyso many errors in keeping true to the style and feel of the game, while i will admit that the atmosphere and locations in places were really well done and kept the feel intact, this was not enough to hold up the shoddy storyline which turned out to be a pathetic love story.
where was the art in the violence? making this movie a 15 was thee worst descision ever..and when this movie sinks into the oblivion of bargain dvd bins worldwide and is not looked upon as a true classic it should have been i hope the makers feel ashamed for tainting this great game with a half arsed throwaway attempt the call a movie.
could have been great ..turned out to be a load of rubbish..shame!
Ok, so I just saw the movie. and I will also say that I never finished the game, but I played enough to get a feel of what it is like. I thaught the movie was very well constructed. Im sorry that you have to take what you saw and bashed it around so much before take into thaught why they can not make it exactly like the game. Very true that the movie had great differences to the game, but can you make a movie off of no revenue? I would think not. Take a step back from the confines of your damn video game and look at the bigger picture. Im sorry that you have no love life. But that would explain why you do not understand the importance of love in a movie. Sure that this movie might “sink into oblivian” but can you not say the same is true for Leon the Professional? And shit, just because you went through a whole level without shooting, doesnt mean the millions of other fans did the same. I know I didnt. I shot up everything, jesus. Speaking of jesus, the church…….have you ever looked at the church and thaught how mysterious it was? It as the the freakin suspence, thats why they have the church in there. The movie was great and im sorry to hear that you think one sexy women is to much. Go jack off to Olyphant.
ReplyThere are no confines to the video game. Heck, porting the scenes from the game straight to the big screen would’ve resulted in a much better movie.
The greatest thing about Leon is the humanity and emotion of the title character with an occupation where one is supposed to have neither. His sensitivity and love for Mathilda is one of the greatest things about the movie.
That is the character, after all. However, 47 is established to have little or none of these traits. The movie could have been about his struggle to find his own humanity and in a way, it had glimpses of this theme but it was done so terribly and Timothy Olyphant is far too expressive and wrong for the role.
I’m all for hot chicks but this isn’t porn or the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She adds absolutely nothing to the movie other than someone for 47 to talk to, which he doesn’t need. Boobs for the sake of boobs are there simply to pander to a less intelligent audience…
…like you. You are perhaps the definition of a stupid movie-goer. Don’t worry, though. Ignorance is bliss, after all. Continue to think The Fast and the Furious is a documentary.
ReplyJust watched the movie on DVD.
It contains all the elements I would expect of a Hollywood production.
That said, since this movie was made with the aim of the average movie-goer, and not the hard-core Hitman fan, I’d say they did a decent job.
Someone obviously gave some sort of OK for the movie, and for a movie about a guy who’s occupation is killing people its not that bad. You have gadgets, cool weapons, hot chick (however misplaced she is), and a high body count.
I’ve played all the Hitman games and I like the games, but it wouldn’t make a good movie. Neither did Doom, and neither will Splinter Cell.
Replyur fucking dumb, this is the best movie ever culero!!
Replyi feel the game was much better than the movie
