Setting The Record Straight On Oink.cd

by Ed Lau on October 24, 2007

Apparently the word is that Oink.cd was some kind of money-making scheme, that people either had to pay or “prove they had music to share” in order to be part of the site. Regardless of what your views are on file sharing, this simply is not true. At no time during my membership on Oink.me.uk or Oink.cd was I asked to pay or share music. In fact, I never uploaded a torrent since, well, I’m sure there isn’t anything I have that isn’t already on there. You did have to keep torrents active so people can download off you and donations were welcome but at no time were they required, as several sources have the Cleveland police saying.

By the way, I’m sure many people feel so much safer that these nasty music pirates are off the streets. They sure are more dangerous than the thousands upon thousands of murderers, rapists and pedophiles loose on the streets. I mean, someone might stab me in the face but at least he’s not trying to help me download music or pre-release an album…because we all know that’s way more important.

While I agree that file sharing is a very small issue, your argument is a slippery slope. You can’t say that A is right, because B is worse. It’s the similar analogy as saying… “What’s the big deal with beating the crap out of a bum for no reason, when there are countless mass murderers and mass rapists loose on the streets?”

There are thousands of torrent sites out there at least 10 of them rule. Does it really matter oink got shut?
