Six Months of EdEdition.com

Posted on May 6th, 2007 by Ed Lau

Today marks exactly six months of blogging by yours truly. w00t for me! I’ve mentioned before all the benefits I’ve seen since I started this site. In all seriousness, it’s been one of the coolest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve learned quite a bit and met some really awesome people that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.

It’s also been a pretty sound investment as through tips from the Root of All Evil himself, the money I spent on hosting for a year was made back in just over a month and Adsense, Kontera and Text-Link-Ads revenue continues to come in. I’m not much of a “make money online” blog and I’m completely inept at everything to do with SEO, PHP and all those other scary abreviations. All I really do is try to run a pretty decent blog so I’m quite happy that that has turned a neat profit.

The awesomeness will most certainly continue as I feel just as enthusiastic about blogging as I did six months ago. John warned me that sometimes people start at a sprint out of the gates and quickly lose interest. I really see no signs of any of that in myself. I’ve maintained at least one post per day and don’t see that slowing down, really. I didn’t really know what to expect when I started so I can’t really say I met any of my expectations but I can say I am pleasantly surprised by the success of my little blog. I honestly thank all my readers since…well, I wouldn’t write anything if no one was going to read it. Thanks!

As for goals…well, the one thing I’ve struggled with is finding a particular niche. I haven’t attempted to market the site with contests or anything because I haven’t really found the anchor text and niche that I would associate with my blog. I guess I just do a little of everything and while I like that, it does make putting what I’ve learned about SEO into practice a bit difficult. Finding a more solid identity for the site is definitely something I’ll be working on. I’d also love to move up another PageRank , see the RSS number move above 100 (highest so far is 74, I think…not counting the 600+ I had for two days because of getting Dugg), get a couple more ReviewMe’s and move past the 100k mark on Alexa.

Again, thanks for reading, folks. Stick around…I’ll have some fun stuff for you guys later on this month. ;) And Speed Link Sunday coming up later on today.

I would congratulate you, but that could imply that you “won” or were “awarded” something. This is a milestone that you worked hard to achieve, so instead of a hearty congratulations, I’m going to say “Great work. Keep it up.”

Congrats on the 6 Month Mark! Keep up the great blog … and thanks for the comment on the new design on my blog … you know I had one that Brian Gardner did for 2 months and I just wanted to clean the site up a bit … thought the new design did just that!
