It always freaks me out when people use internet-speak in real life. For example, I know someone that says “LOL!”. No, actual “ELL-OH-ELL”. I even know a girl that says “ROFFLE!”, as in ROFL.
Is this just a sign that communication patterns on the internet is further permeating our everyday lives? I mean, just count the number of times “FAIL!” and other associated internet slang phrases are used at Dot Com Pho, for example. However, we’re probably not the best control group as every one of us works on the internet in some manner. I can only imagine how all this sounds to people that don’t quite understand. Here’s a good example, using World of Warcraft lingo…

This is NOT a good example of WoW lingo. As a regular WoW player, I should know.
LFM 25 nex 2 more tanks 2 more DKs = Looking for member to join Nexxus, need two more tanks (a person who takes all the damage for weak players) and two more Death Knights.
Kek = When you see a enemy say, ‘Lol’ you will see it as ‘Kek’ because the different races speak in different language to avoid enemies communicating with each other online.
I’m pretty sure other WoW players can point out more faults in that video.
1 – That report was cringe worthy.
2 – Aside from the WoW speak in the video, I too know of people that use various internet memes or gaming terms in their everyday lives. Such as in the sentences “That was total pewpewpew” (As in the Lolcat photos), “FAIL!”, “Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom”, and the singing of various songs from Weebl’s Stuff (Profiteroles… BOOM!)
