Left 4 Dead
I really need to find more time in the day. This is one of those “perfect storm” times of the year when tons of quality games come out and there’s simply not enough time to play them all. I saw a video for Left 4 Dead the other day and was convinced that [...]
Read MoreSpeed Link Sunday! - April 15th
Once again, it’s Sunday and that means another round of spreading the link lovin’, which seems to be coming in at an accelerated rate now that a new link train has started. I went up about 3,000 spots and a 20-user favorites on Technorati this week although overall, traffic has slowed ever so slightly since mid-week when I hit 73 RSS subscribers. If you haven’t gotten in on the link train, get in early while it’s still hot and not too many people have done it!
1. Kimiko Suzuki, whose page is rivaled only by Ms. Danielle’s in terms of the blinding level of pinkitude, was banned from Google Adsense this week because she was apparently getting fraudulent clicks. I don’t know Kimiko personally but while her page is all about making money with a blog, she doesn’t seem like the dishonest type. Either way, the girl is persistent and getting banned actually increased her traffic! It’s a good reminder that there are plenty of other ad services other than Adsense. Remember: adversity also creates opportunities.
2. Jane May from CareerRamblings shows us how to save a dollar a week. Well, I’m sure most of these ideas save you more than a dollar a week since $52 bucks a year is barely worth worrying over. However, do a few of these and it quickly adds up. We could all stand to spend a little less these days and most of these are rather simple. Hey, saving a few bucks by keeping air in your tires and not keeping a mountain of crap in your trunk is basically free money you can buy a couple beers with. But…avoiding fashion trends and avoiding the weekend? I’m not sure I could do that…
3. HateTheGrind has an article on giving up on new revenue streams too early. We all know that we shouldn’t rely on only one type of ad if you want to monetize your blog and sometimes, a certain ad doesn’t exactly take off immediately. I have to admit, I was initially a little disappointed by the performance of the Kontera ads that I’ve integrated into the site but it is starting to steady itself out after optimizing a bit more.
4. Chow Times (no relation to the Root of All Evil himself) is a fantastic food and travel blog run by people in the Vancouver area where I live. They show off some of the great places to grab a bite in the Lower Mainland and around the world. They are currently in Paris and I must say, their pictures made me all nostalgic since I was also traveling around Europe this past summer. I even asked them if they saw “Ball Man” in front of Notre Dame (which is the image you see up top) but unfortunately, there weren’t many street performers at the time. If you ever get the chance, go backpacking through Europe. It’s just a great experience. If you thought John Chow and I made you hungry with our food pictures, you’ll soak your keyboard in drool after seeing some of the delicious pictures at Chow Times.
5. Jeff Kee has a three part (so far) series on looking through Windows Vista and all the crap that it comes with. Jeff is also in the process of updating the look of his blog so don’t be too freaked out by the unfinished-ness of it all. I’m not a big fan of Vista other than how pretty the whole thing is since it seems rather bloated and unnecessary right now. I regularly tell customers at the store not to buy it…well, when I actually pay attention to customers. In case you’re wondering, that isn’t very often. I really should post more work stories…

Ed, let’s get those Canucks back in winning order! I’m hoping for a Detroit vs. Vancouver rivalry here.
ReplyThat HateTheGrind article is pretty good. People should definitely check it out.
I, too, have been disappointed with Kontera, despite the pretty good CTR. Just waiting for the optimization to improve.
