Speed Link Sunday! – July 1st + Top Commentators for June

by Ed Lau on July 1, 2007

Thought I’d combine the two posts since well, it’s happening on the same day anyways. In honour of Canada Day, I’m going to be featuring all Canadian bloggers on Speed Link Sunday and also, notice I used the Canadian spelling for the word “honour”. Yeah, that’s right. Colour, cheque, savour. Hells yes. Happy freakin’ birthday, True North Strong and Free. May your trees grow greener and the beavers not use all of them for dam making.

1. Michael Kwan, who was also at Dot Com Dim Sum yesterday, reviews some crappy movies, both Alpha Dog and Primeval, which couldn’t possibly be worse than Ghost Rider…or his really sad AGLOCO stats. He’s part of my AGLOCO network so I hope he’ll pick it up soon.

2. Professional Internet Horndog Jeff Kee is currently in Costa Rica and it looks like he’s having a good time. I’ve been a lot of places but I’ve ever hit anywhere in South America. It’s just too damned hot anywhere there. I mean, Brazil looks like a really interesting place that I’d want to go but it’s super hot there. Of course, that also means less clothing overall…and those Brazilian beer commercials always make the place look really sexy.

3. Gdog experiences Korea’s national sport, Starcraft at a LAN cafe. I’m surprised he didn’t do this sooner since South Korea, I believe, has the most Starcraft players of any country and Starcraft 2 was probably announced there for that reason. Heck, Korea just loves video games in general. They were often some of the first to do…well, anything, in World of Warcraft, for example.

4. Carl of k-rad.hk follows the ongoing Chris Benoit story, which is allegedly a double murder-suicide. It’s sad and weird at the same time, really. I remember watching wrestling as a kid and I probably stopped watching around the time Benoit started in the WWF since, well, I realized how ridiculous it was and the strange homosexual vibe all the wrestlers project. Seriously…everyone cringed when Will Ferrell had to hold Napoleon Dynamite’s crotch during Blades of Glory. That stuff happens every week in wrestling!

5. The fake Stephen Fung “meets” some celebrity chick from Taiwan at the airport. I’ve never heard of her before but apparently she’s famous for some reason or other. By meet, I mean she looked at him briefly, although Stephen swears the look was a smoldering stare. I thought he probably just convinced her that he was the Hong Kong actor Stephen Fung.

Top Commentators for June

Leo Chiang once again tops the Top Commentator list with a total of 21. Despite being a film actor and a relatively big dude, Leo is a geek to the core. I know he likes nerd movies/shows and plays all sorts of MMORPGs. He says he’s also going to beat up some children to get himself a seat for the Transformers movie.

…however, I think I’m going to punch some toddlers myself since it does, actually, look awesome. I thought it would suck because…I mean…Michael Bay but it does look pretty fantastic, especially for all of us who grew up watching Optimus and the other Robots in Disguise.

Rounding out the top five are:

2. Ms. Danielle
3. Saman Sadeghi
4. Derrich
5. Michael Kwan

Until next week…and next month, folks.

Advance screens of Transformers the Movie say that its the best movie ever. Of course, they could be a bunch of fanboys like that Mooby kid in Clerks II that will eat up anything TF.

I found out one interesting thing about the other Stephen Fung. People know him, but he’s pretty much a has been now. Which means I’m taking over! :D

I just squeaked in there for the top 5 commentators, huh? And yes, my AGLOCO stats are sad.

I love the ongoing “fake” Stephen Fung gag.

It was on the Space Channel, the Canadian equivalent to the SciFi Channel.

I can’t tell you how funny I though this was: May your trees grow greener and the beavers not use all of them for dam making.

You Northies are too much

Well, the Bald Eagle is noble and all, but we all LOVE a shaved Beaver ;)

Glad I made the list again. At least I didn’t have to do battle with Leo again. Sheesh. I hope he took it easy on the kids at the Transformers movie. I saw it tonight, and I almost kicked the whole theatre’s ass for applauding at stupid things like when Bumblebee changed from the old Camaro into the new one. Ok…random rant. Anyway…ditto on the beaver.

Yeah, what’s the deal with that? How can he be called Bumblebee now that he’s a Camaro instead of a VW Beetle. He was supposed to be the smallest of the Autobots with the biggest of hearts, and good friend to Spike.

Yeah…no kidding. Product placement > authenticity, I guess.
