Visiting Union Gospel Mission
John Chow, Stephen Fung, Greg Morgan and I were invited down to UGM today to have some lunch and hear about some of the new stuff they’ve been doing lately. We’re always glad to go down to UGM as well as help them raise some funds to help folks in need over the holidays.

Man, this is such a lazy feeling Sunday. I’m actually preparing to BBQ tonight for my buddy’s birthday but since we have some time before dinner, I thought I’d take a look around and post some link love for the week.
1. Leo Chiang has a hilarious video about, well, emo kids. It’s pretty damned funny. It wasn’t long ago that Michael Kwan and I were wondering how blogging has become such a good marketing tool and not just the domain of emo kids anymore. Personally, I think it’s actually rather funny that so many musicians and clothing stores have cashed in on this way of “depression” in suburban teenagers everywhere.
2. John Chow told me he was going to make this post yesterday. It’s a bit of a nostalgic look back on past visits to Computex. You might not think so at first but conferences like this are as much about partying as they are about the presentations. John and I went to a couple Comdex’s and E3’s a few years back and had a blast. I documented both at hardCOREware.
3. Ms. Q shows us some vacation pictures featuring a Wannaha…Waene…Wakahoukr…um…some weird name for a tidal cave. Looks like a fantastic place to sit back and relax. Check out that beautiful purple sunset. There’s a bunch of other photos in her other posts too.
4. fruityoaty is back from a two week “vacation” and has a giant list of emerging influential blogs, which includes yours truly! I’m at #25 on the second list but hey, I’m honored to just be considered. There are some really fantastic sites on that list.
5. Derrich compares and contrasts ReviewMe and PayPerPost, mainly because PPP has created a new direct service to compete with PayPerPost. Personally, I’ve stayed far away from PayPerPost because I think the policy of postive-only reviews is a dent to credibility, especially when there’s too much PPP on a site but maybe there are new policies with the new service.

FYI: PayPerPost does not require positive reviews and the blogger is always in control of what opportunities to accept. As such, you might want to look into replacing your current “Get reviewed by this blog” badge with the PPP Direct widget.
The PPP Direct widget enables negotiation, payment certification and tracking for you, with a flat 10% fee, compared to the 100% markup your current badge takes for what is essentially a direct deal.

And I actually didn’t rank it based on what I liked it — it was ordered based on OLDEST to NEWEST inaugural post date… You just happened to have the newest date out of the 25.
