Although some were already marking the date off on their calendar, planning to take a day off work and line-up for it (I know several people who actually are…), I originally really couldn’t be bothered with Starcraft 2. Maybe it’s because I don’t really like RTS games as they require way too much planning and thought per second to be competitive and not being of Korean heritage, I never mastered the artform…and I hate not being good at things. I remember playing Starcraft ten years ago, finishing the single player and then hopping onto battle.net where I was promptly handed my ass on a platter.
It’s not the storyline, which is actually stellar and as good as that of the Warcraft universe but mostly my dislike for RTS games. However, as the day approached, I find myself actually wanting to play the game. Not to the point where I’ll line up for it at midnight…especially since I won’t line up for damn near anything but the trailers have made the game seem all the more epic. This might be another one of those games I don’t want to play but end up playing anyways because I want to see the story…much like all the Final Fantasy games. Hate playing them…would watch them if they were a movie.

Having played the multiplayer beta, I can assure you that getting your ass handed to oneself on a platter is still very much part of the gameplay. In fact, I think not getting you ass handed to you within the first few moments of the game actually gets you an achievement.
I’d have to say I’m relatively stoked about the single player campaign. I’m an RTS guy (although no good at the MP experience) and the storyline looks pretty darn solid.
Plus, SC just makes me remember the good ol’ days..
Starcraft was my introduction to RTS gaming, and we used to hold LAN tournaments where 4 to 8 of us would play together for many a night and a weekend. The release of Starcraft II has been so long in coming that I really thought it may never actually happen. My PC gave up the ghost last week, and now I realise why! A hardware upgrade is most definitely necessary in order to facilitate me playing Starcraft II, so the breakdown happened at just the right juncture in time to vindicate upgrading….heheheh, gotta love synchronicity!
I was on the beta team, and didn’t really like it too much, but now that I’ve actually got my hands on the single player game, I am slowly warming up to Starcraft 2, and I just might like it after all! Though the only thing I need is to get a better graphics card so I can run it at the maximum!
Till then,
Jean
I’ve never played the first game, which is odd as every gamer has played it as sometime. But due to time constraints, I only had time to play less time-consuming games but looking forward to getting a piece of Star Trek 2 as it’s bound to be something special.
I also don’t particularly like RTS games and for the exact same reason…I suck and losing isn’t much fun. I’d probably also give this one a shot although to play it much I’d have to look up some strategy tutorials.
