Even if you didn’t get tickets to any of the Olympic events or maybe all that’s on that day is curling and you’re not really into it (I wouldn’t know why because curling is AWESOME.), Vancouver is still an extremely fun place to be between all the great parties going on at the various houses, concerts at LiveCity and the Richmond O-Zone or just soaking up the great atmosphere in a city that traditionally doesn’t have a lot going on.
However, if you don’t want to wait in line for hours, there’s still a lot happening on the streets from all the various performers and there is a great open stage on Robson right next to the skating rink that features some great music at night.
I dropped by a few nights ago and caught a set by Alex*Cuba, who is apparently more popular than I thought since I got a number of responses on Twitter when I mentioned I was editing my photos of him. I guess I should’ve known since the crowd was pretty big and everyone was loving the party atmosphere and Latin sound.
During the day and weather permitting, there are a number of great acts along Robson Street (and sometimes Granville). These guys are the Now or Never crew, a group of Canadian b-boys that put on a gravity defying show that certainly attracts a huge crowd. I couldn’t make my way to the front the first time so I waited around at the end for them to start up again.
Also, congrats to our latest Olympic champion, Ashleigh McIvor, in ski-cross!
And I could never forget to mention Canadian hero Clara Hughes, who brought us a bronze in the 5000m this morning. Clara is the only person to ever win multiple medals in both the winter and summer Olympics. She’s in a class all by herself. Congrats to our Olympians!
