Visiting Union Gospel Mission
John Chow, Stephen Fung, Greg Morgan and I were invited down to UGM today to have some lunch and hear about some of the new stuff they’ve been doing lately. We’re always glad to go down to UGM as well as help them raise some funds to help folks in need over the holidays.

Honestly, I was surprised. Although the Giants have been extremely good as of late and they’d won ten straight on the road, the Pats had won rieighteen in a row overall and usually in dominant fashion. You had guys like Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, Tedy Bruschi…dude, the list goes on. On paper, I didn’t think New York had a chance against the New England dynasty.
But I have to say, the Giants simply played an incredible game. Their defense was pressuring Brady all night, collapsing the pocket and sacking him five times. And credit Eli Manning for answering his critics in the past few weeks. He seriously had ice water in his veins, especially with that totally ridiculous play to David Tyree in the dying minutes. Manning escaped three pass-rushing New England players and tossed it to Tyree, who caught it against his freakin’ helmet and managed to hold it even with Rodney Harrison all over him. You could see it in that man’s eyes that he was thinkg “I’m going to make this catch if it kills me! Not a chance I’m letting this go!”

You could see the opposite on the faces of the Pats. I haven’t seen Brady with that kind of worried expression on his face all year. Usually his eyes say nothing but determination.
I was pulling for the Pats all day, though and was a little disappointed that they lost to the Giants. Seriously. For two reasons:
1. I wanted to see history being made. 19-0 would’ve been a big deal.
2. I wanted the ‘72 Miami Dolphins to shut the #*&% up. Seriously, they were on the Patriots for weeks…especially Don Shula, who was after Belichick. That geezer needs to shut his yap. No one likes to see their achievements eclipsed but really, if it wasn’t yesterday, it will happen eventually. Good on the Pats for taking the high road and not hurling any insults back at the Dolphins.

So after coming one game short, are the Pats going to come back stronger next year and go for perfection again?

ReplyThat was a great game. I was torn. I was pulling for the underdog, but wanted the Patriots to win to shut up the 72 Dolphins.
The Dolphins were not that good. They only played 1 team with a over .500 record all year. The competition was lousy. Even with a back up quarterback, they went undefeated, but there are a about a dozen teams in history better than the Dolphins. They need to keep their mouths shut.
ReplyI’m literally still in shock.
