Visiting Union Gospel Mission
John Chow, Stephen Fung, Greg Morgan and I were invited down to UGM today to have some lunch and hear about some of the new stuff they’ve been doing lately. We’re always glad to go down to UGM as well as help them raise some funds to help folks in need over the holidays.

So I stopped by Richard Kidd today hoping they would’ve got their latest shipment in when I came across something else that would go great in my quest to fill my room with an all new kind of awesome. It’s a black skateboard deck with “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” painted on it along with the logos for Public Enemy and Supreme. Unfortunately, the store said they were for display only and wouldn’t sell one to me…even though they had three.

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back was the platinum Public Enemy album released in 1988 at a time when Flavor Flav was more than a crazy reality show punchline and large wall clocks actually looked slightly fashionable around his neck rather than simple comic relief. Supreme, on the other hand, is a streetwear brand with roots in a skateboard shop in New York, popularized by their creative portrait t-shirts which are basically pictures of celebrities printed on white shirts. I’m on a list for one of the box tees but it still hasn’t shown up yet.
The deck would look great mounted on my wall, probably above my desk. It’s apparently rather rare and I’ve yet to find anywhere that can get me one reliably. Of course, I’ve never skateboarded…the one time I tried I busted an elbow…but it’s not like anyone that buys this thing would actually skate on it anyways.
