The New Microsoft Ads Are Awesome

by Ed Lau on September 18, 2008

No, not the ones with Jerry Seinfeld.

I actually still like seeing the Apple commercials when a new one pops up now and then but it’s true that they have become a little repetitive. Some of them border on genius. However, with little change in the format, it starts to get old.

Microsoft was supposed to strike back with ads featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld but they mostly fell flat despite being probably the only video ever featuring Gates shaking his ass and doing a rather fantastic robot. People either didn’t get it or didn’t watch it all the way to the end to see the actual…uh…point, or what little point there was.

So MS went back to the drawing board and simplified, using Apple’s own ad concept against them. The result is fantastic. While Apple has Justin Long and that guy from The Daily Show, Microsoft managed to round up cameos from Tony Parker, Eva Longoria, Deepak Chopra, Pharrell Williams and a guy with a beard. He has a beard, people.

This campaign seems a whole heck of a lot better than the Seinfeld series.

As much as I hate Apple and Macs, I love their commercials.
