They Sure Know How To Make Commercials

by Ed Lau on January 14, 2008

The Bugatti Veyron is the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 253MPH and a 0-60 time of just under 2.5 seconds. It’s faster than a lot of things in this world so naturally, Nike wanted one for a race in their latest commercial against…a man.

Nike Football has made some of the all-time great commercials, including the fantastic Scorpion Tournament and the “Rounder” commercial which has Thierry Henry, Francesco Totti, Frank Lampard, Luis Figo and others fighting robot samurais to acquire a ball. Of course, there’s the huge Joga Bonito series which featured Manchester United legend Eric Cantona (who has appeared in nearly every major Nike Football commercial) hosting a series of shorts with some of the world’s finest footballers. Do a search on YouTube for Nike Football and check them out since we don’t get to see these on TV here in North America due to the small amount of interest in soccer on this side of the world.

Anyways, apparently Christiano Ronaldo raced a Bugatti Veyron over what looks like a 100m sprint. I seriously doubt it’s real but it’s fun to watch anyways. Heck, maybe it is real. They could’ve used some…uh…“hired” women as bait for the Man. U superstar and he would’ve smoked it in that direction.

It may have been real. The driver sandbagged the start and just sat there spinning his wheels for a bit.
If the car was winning I’m sure Ronaldo would have faked a fall and blamed it on the car’s driver.
