I had a post a bit more than a week ago that suggested the next Top Gear race would be in the arctic. Well, thanks to some very helpful readers, I can now say that those rumors were correct. In the next series, which would be the tenth of the current format, Jeremy Clarkson and James May, in a Toyota HiLux (which is the invincible truck they couldn’t kill), will be racing Richard Hammond…who will be piloting a dog sled. We can only hope that Top Gear Dog is not part of that dog team because she’s probably the laziest dog in the known universe.

Again, it was only a rumor I heard but readers with some ties to the site of the race wrote in and confirmed that the Top Gear presenters were in the arctic for a race.

Andy writes:

Clarkson is 100% definately in the Arctic (though in Canada, not Alaska). I have friends who are currently walking to the Magnetic North Pole and have actually spoken to him. He is driving an Icelandic Jeep and racing a Dog Sled team. They departed Resolute Bay in Northern Canada last week.

Liz writes:

Yes! Simon took part in the Polar Race 2005 and he’s just been back to the Arctic where he also met and talked to Richard Hammond (in Iqaluit en route to Resolute)

As you can see from our blog, Simon has just returned from the Arctic. While in Iqaluit he met Richard Hammond who was out there filming for a Top Gear race!!! You are correct! Although not in Alaska! The race will take place in the Canadian Arctic.

And someone named Stig’s Wife (I didn’t know Stig had a wife…since all we know is that some say his heart is in upside down and that he sucks all the moisture from ducks) writes:

clarkson/may in car, hammond with matty mcnair with dogs sled. going to magnetic north.

The one part I was wrong about was that the race is not in Alaska. I actually did know it was in Resolute but…I thought that was in Alaska. Apparently it’s in Nunavut, which is Northern Canada. I don’t think that really justifies a kick to the chest but maybe just a punch to the arm.
