Dude…this show is like…whoa…dude.
It’s true. For the past three years, Showcase’s Weeds has been one of the most consistently funny shows on television, showing the hilarious side of drug dealing and the mire of suburban, McHouse life. The show centers on Nancy Botwin, a recent widow who turns to selling weed in order to support her two sons. Regardless of your views on drugs, I’m not kidding, the show is great.
I first started watching it last year when I bought the first season on DVD, which comes with lots of great extras like tutorials on hydroponics (basically how to build your own grow house…) and a top ten style list of the best species of marijuana, according to the show’s advisors.
Even though I think the show is mostly a comedy, it also has a great cast of characters (and I think Mary-Louise Parker is really hot…), each of which deal with issues that are probably quite common for much of America. Divorce, affairs, parent-child conflict…you name it. It has a lot of focus on weed but that’s not all it’s about.
Either way, I highly recommend Weeds. I’m obviously not the only one that thinks so as the second season was nominated for five Emmys. You don’t have to be blitzed out of your mind for it to be funny…although that can’t really hurt either.
Maybe one of these days I’ll write the Amsterdam story down here…

They were showing one season of weeds here in sweden, but they took it off after 4 episodes as no one watched it. Too bad as some of the episodes I’ve seen are very good.
ReplyYeah, I gave it a try a few times but couldn’t sit through a full episode. I think it’s only funny if you’re on the munchie phase of being on chronic, kinda like watching Trailer Park Boys. I never got that show either. Maybe I should start doing drugs.
