The internet has spawned all sorts of strange trends over the years. I don’t think I have to tell you what they are…it’s really something you should learn as you go. One is that, especially with the rise of YouTube, regular folks can get famous. Not really…famous but at least quasi-famous, as Matt from wherethehellismatt.com would say. Matt is a self-described deadbeat from Connecticut who was once a game designer but quit in 2003 to travel around the world until he ran out of money.
This doesn’t sound all that unusual but Matt documents his travels on his blog and makes videos of himself dancing everywhere he goes. Yes, dancing. Believe me when I tell you…Matt is absolutely terrible at dancing. When folks say white people have no rhythm, they were talking about this guy. Yes, his dancing is so horrible that it’s awesome.
Matt is basically living the dream…traveling the world, experiencing other cultures. It’s not easy to drop everything, especially a steady job and income, to travel and learn in an unconventional way so I seriously admire his courage. Sometimes people put so much emphasis on going to school or getting a job that they miss out on some things that just shouldn’t be missed.
You can read more about Matt’s travels at Where the Hell is Matt?

I saw this about a year back… the cool thing about what he did is that he got so much attention that Stride Gum sponsored him to go around the world again!! Now THAT’S awesome!
I wish something like that would happen to me!
Ya . . i saw this about a year ago too and thought it was the coolest thing. The ony problem is that he got sponsored and he tried to play it off at first that he saved up money and did it all himself. No matter what . . . . I envy his adventures!
The first time he did it, he used all his own money from working. The second time, which is the video I have up there, he was sponsored by some gum company that saw his first one and asked him to do it again.
He even has a “deleted scenes” video out there, which was kinda cool.
what happened to “Where the Hell is Gary?” wasn’t i supposed to tape you dancing in front of all the strip clubs in LA?
His next trip (has it already started?) is also probably going to be sponsored by tons of people. This guy is probably going to make a living out of this alone one day.
it takes guts to just quit and travel. I tried it for 6 weeks and went around thailand, bali, sinapore, cambodia and india.
I was unhappy to get back home to san diego.
Guess what a swedish travel company called Wings have used clips from his movies in their new commercial.
When I saw it I was like heeey it’s that dude!
I wish I had the guts to do something quite as wild.
